Red Hat and Purple Clothes

Why DO we do it?
Because it’s fun!
Dress up is fun,
Even if there is no good reason at all.
We are not often invited to proms
Or other high falutin’ social events
So any event will do.

It helps to have a group of friends
Sashaying around with you
Dressed up in red hat
And purple clothes
With flashy costume jewelry
And trailing scarves.

Some men don’t get it,
And others applaud
And laugh right along with us,
The out to lunch bunch
Wearing what we’d never dare
Alone.
Just seeing the Red Hats
Enjoying life
Simple things like a walk in a garden
Or through an antique store
Tea or coffee or coke
Lifts the spirits of those round about
Who NEVER want to be THAT old!
But they do want to have some of that fun.

Who ARE you? Asked one observer of us.
So I explained.
I want to do this too!
She wailed.
We hope she will someday,
When she’s old enough to know
Life won’t last forever.
THIS is a good day to dress up!

Laughter is good medicine
At any age.
